Over the coming months, our students will design, build and prepare their electric vehicles, culminating in our regional race series, which starts with the Wellington/Manawatū finals on 15 October 2026. About EVolocity
We are a national charity that has been empowering young New Zealanders since 2013, operating in eight regions. Our unique programme gives Year 7-13 students the opportunity to design, build, and race their own electric vehicles while developing real-world skills in engineering, CAD design, welding, electronics, programming, and project management. In 2025, 688 participants from 103 schools, representing a rich diversity of backgrounds, ethnicities, and circumstances. Free to register and open to all, EVolocity reaches rangatahi all across Aotearoa New Zealand, ensuring that access to world-class STEM experience is not determined by circumstance.
What sets EVolocity apart is its proven ability to empower young people. Students who have struggled to find their confidence in the classroom step into leadership roles, develop resilience, and leave the programme equipped with problem-solving skills they can apply across every area of life. In 2025, with around 31% of participants in Years 12 and 13, EVolocity is directly feeding a pipeline of capable, future-ready talent into tertiary education, apprenticeships, and careers across engineering, technology, trades, and beyond, with alumni already making their mark in sectors including aerospace, healthcare, and clean technology. STEM education funding is in short supply. EVolocity gets on with the mahi, partnering with industry experts to address New Zealand’s skills shortage by educating and empowering the next generation of engineers and innovators.
We are deeply honoured to be recognised as one of the 2025 winners of a Global ESTEM Award, presented by Pratt & Whitney in collaboration with The North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE). A panel of judges selected the honorees from a pool of over 208 applicants spanning 48 countries.
EVolocity is extremely proud to also have been awarded Highly Commended in the 2026 NZ Hi Tech Awards Best Hi-Tech Solution for the Public Good Category. This award recognises technology that is making a genuine, positive difference to society in Aotearoa and beyond.
