At Waikato, we guide our students to become innovative professional engineers, who blend maths, physics, science, design and business thinking, to solve the challenges that matter to people. We offer eight engineering programmes (chemical and biological, civil, electrical and electronic, environmental, materials and process, mechanical, mechatronics and software) which are internationally accredited and recognised around the world. The first trimester of the BE(Hons) is common to most programmes, so you have time to get a little taste of each discipline before locking in your programme choice. Have we piqued your interest? If so, you won’t want to miss out on our two highly anticipated annual events which happen in April and October respectively.
Experience Engineering (E²)
Ready to work together with your peers on engineering activities and challenges and get a taste of campus life? You’ll love Experience Engineering! It’s a day full of fun, with activities including an AR sandbox, sense the future robots, and bridge the gap structures. You’ll also get to experience lunch at the halls of residence, and have the opportunity to explore the campus on a guided tour. We’ll also give a presentation about what we have to offer and what you can get up to as a Waikato engineering student.
Engineering Design Show
If you want to see what our students have been working on throughout the year, don’t miss the Engineering Design Show, where engineers from all four BE(Hons) years and all eight disciplines will showcase, explain, and demonstrate their work. Among the activities in 2022 were the first-year boat race, testing civil bridges, and walnut cracker demonstrations. Mini robots identified, collected, and sorted trash, live shaving cream demos were carried out, and mechanical apple harvesters were tested.
