Mission & history
EVolocity participants gain knowledge, skills & passion in the areas of design, engineering & technology, preparing them for 21st Century careers and empowering them to help create a more sustainable future.
To grow enrolments into tertiary STEM studies and trades training while fostering awareness of more sustainable lifestyles by running an electric vehicle project based learning programme for young people and communities.
EVolocity is a charitable, cause-driven organisation. We were incorporated in 2013, and in early 2015 we became a registered charity (CC51421).
Our pilot programme launched in Canterbury in 2014. Sixteen teams from 11 schools participated. An exit survey of participating team members showed:
- EVolocity developed interests in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering & power electronics;
- Team members discovered how rewarding it can be to participate in a practical project;
- Students learned how to work with and relate to other students as a team.
EVolocity attracted interest from 38 teams in 2015, including 7 teams from Nelson. Not all teams were able to complete their projects (they plan on doing so in 2016) which highlighted the needs (a) to integrate EVolocity into the curriculum and (b) to ensure that each team has access to an external industry mentor.
In 2016, EVolocity is expanding into new regions including Waikato and Otago.
